Alicia Keys Collab With JAY-Z

Alicia Keys has sparked anticipation for a potential new collaboration with JAY-Z, hinting at reviving their iconic partnership. On Saturday (June 15), the singer dropped an unexpected promo video, celebrating their 2009 hit “Empire State of Mind” while teasing their next venture.

In the post, Keys captioned, “1 Dream. 1 Song. 1 Billion streams. Thank you! We love you. What’s next…” The video featured JAY-Z in a throwback outfit reminiscent of his early-2000s HOV era, standing alongside Keys in an empty lobby-like space. As a muffled loop of Keys’ vocals from “Empire State of Mind” played, the teaser concluded with a switch to a new beat, possibly a snippet from their upcoming release.

The anthem, featured on JAY-Z’s album ‘The Blueprint 3,’ marked a milestone by securing his first No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100 and earning the duo Grammy Awards for Best Rap/Sung Collaboration and Best Rap Song. The track was certified nine times platinum by the RIAA in June 2023. Reflecting on their history, Keys recently pondered whether another collaboration with JAY-Z could match the impact of their enduring ode to their hometown.

Alicia Keys recently discussed the enduring legacy of ‘Empire State of Mind’ in an interview with E! News, expressing both excitement and contemplation about future collaborations with JAY-Z.
“It’s so funny ‘cause we talk about that a lot because there are so many songs that come up, and it’s like, ‘Oh, JAY would be crazy on this,’ and ‘Oh, AK would be crazy on this,’” she shared. “We’re like, ‘But will it ever be like ‘Empire State of Mind’? So, I wonder if it kind of, you know, hinders us in some kind of way; it’s almost like there’s no topping it… Definitely, we are not limited, and I’d love to do another collaboration with my brother,” she continued.
The track holds a permanent place in pop and Hip Hop culture, partly due to an unforgettable moment at the 2009 MTV Video Music Awards when Lil Mama joined their performance. Despite occasional reminiscences, both artists have moved past the incident.
